Why There Is a Brush in the Box
IQOS markets ILUMA devices as needing no cleaning at all, and that claim is largely accurate. So when a Smartcore induction device arrives with a cleaning brush, it is reasonable to ask what the brush is for.
Here is the honest answer.
Induction heating removes the main source of residue. A blade device such as the IQOS 3 DUO pushed a heated blade directly into the tobacco, which left material coated on the blade after every stick and required a real cleaning routine. There is no blade in the i8, so that source is gone entirely.
What remains is mechanical rather than thermal. Inserting and removing sticks drags small amounts of loose tobacco off the stick and into the chamber mouth. It is a small quantity per stick, and it accumulates slowly, and it collects around the rim and the upper chamber rather than deep inside.
Left alone long enough, it does two things. The draw becomes slightly restricted, which people usually notice as a session that feels harder to pull than it used to. And stick insertion gets tighter, which makes removal less clean and adds more debris in a loop.
How often. Every twenty sticks or so is a reasonable rhythm for average use. If you run six-minute sessions at higher temperatures you may want it slightly more often, since more of the stick is consumed and more material moves.
How. Let the device cool completely first, which means several minutes after a session and not immediately. Brush the chamber mouth and the visible upper chamber with the supplied tool, using light pressure. Tip the device to let the loose material fall out rather than pushing it deeper. Wipe the rim with a dry cloth.
What never to do. No water and no liquid of any kind in the chamber. No alcohol, no cleaning sprays. Nothing metal, including pins, picks or paperclips, because the induction assembly sits behind that opening. And never clean it while it is warm.
Compared honestly with an IQOS ILUMA, this is more maintenance than zero. It is also about two minutes of work every couple of weeks, and far less than any blade device asked for. Whether that trade is worth the adjustable temperature and session time is the actual decision, and it is a fair one either way.

How to Use It
- Charge fully before first use, around 2.5 hours over USB Type-C.
- Power on and check the battery level.
- Set the working temperature between 200 and 300°C.

Keep it under 60°C. Parked cars in UAE summer will exceed that and permanently reduce battery capacity.
Saturated finishes show chemical damage more obviously than neutral ones, so the no-solvents rule matters more here. Dry microfibre only.
Prolonged direct sunlight will dull a saturated red over long periods. Ordinary outdoor use is fine, months on a sunlit windowsill are not.
