ILUMA i PRIME is the most advanced device Philip Morris International makes — the premium two-piece model of the ILUMA i series, combining an anodised aluminium Pocket Charger with a Touch Screen, Pause Mode, FlexPuff, and FlexBattery.
Underneath it runs the same SMARTCORE Induction System as every ILUMA device: an induction coil activates the metal heating element sealed inside each TEREA stick, heating tobacco from within instead of burning it. No blade, no residue, no cleaning.
Three colourways: Midnight Black, Breeze Blue, and Garnet Red.

This is the single most useful thing to understand about i PRIME, and no product listing anywhere explains it. The four advanced features interact, and using one can disable another.
ILUMA PRIME or ILUMA i PRIME?
Both are two-piece premium devices with anodised aluminium bodies. The i adds the feature set.

Dimensions, charging time, uses per charge, heating temperature, and session length are the same on both. What you’re paying for is the Touch Screen, the flexibility features, and the third consecutive use.
The Advanced Features, Individually
- Touch Screen — shows preheating status, time remaining in the session, and how many uses are left. It replaces guessing at LED patterns.
- Pause Mode — pause an experience for up to 8 minutes and resume where you left off. A phone call no longer costs you a stick.
- FlexPuff — the device reads your puff pattern and may add up to 4 extra puffs, taking a session from 14 to 18, still within the 6-minute window. System-controlled; you can’t trigger it.
- FlexBattery — switch the Holder between Performance Mode (up to 3 consecutive uses) and Eco Mode (single use, extended battery lifespan).
- Autostart / Autostop — heating begins on stick insertion and stops if the stick is moved or removed. Autostart can be turned off in the IQOS app if you prefer button control.
- Device Lock — lock the device through the app to stop anyone else using it.
The Three Colourways
- IQOS ILUMA i PRIME Midnight Black — the most understated and the most widely chosen.
- IQOS ILUMA i PRIME Breeze Blue — cool, clear blue.
- IQOS ILUMA i PRIME Garnet Red — deep, warm red, the boldest of the three.
All three are the same device. Colour is the only difference.

How It Works
Charge the Pocket Charger fully before first use — around 2 hours 15 minutes over USB-C. Slide the Holder in to top it up between sessions.
Insert a TEREA stick into the Holder up to the line on the filter, without twisting. Autostart begins heating on its own and the Touch Screen shows preheating progress. The session runs up to 6 minutes or 14 puffs, with FlexPuff possibly extending the count.
To reset the device: place the Holder in the Pocket Charger and hold the Pocket Charger button for 10 seconds. The Status Lights turn off, blink twice, and come back on to confirm.

Compatible With Your Existing ILUMA PRIME
If you already own an ILUMA PRIME, the two generations work together:
- An i PRIME Holder charges in an ILUMA PRIME Pocket Charger, and vice versa
- The charging cable and power adaptor are interchangeable
- ILUMA accessories fit i PRIME and the other way round
- No firmware update is needed on the older device
That makes upgrading straightforward, and it means a spare Holder from an older device isn’t wasted.
Why There’s No Cleaning
Every IQOS generation before ILUMA heated sticks with a physical blade, which accumulated residue and needed a regular cleaning routine. ILUMA i PRIME has no blade — the induction coil sits in the Holder and the metal heating element sits inside the TEREA stick, leaving with it when binned. Nothing accumulates internally, so there’s no cleaning cycle at all.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use all the advanced features at once?
No, and this is the most important thing to understand. Pause Mode disables FlexPuff for that session and reduces consecutive uses from 3 to 2. Eco Mode removes Pause Mode entirely. The features are alternatives as much as additions.
How many consecutive uses does it really give?
Up to 3, in Performance Mode, when Pause Mode hasn’t been activated. Use pause and you get 2 uses with 1 pause among them. In Eco Mode it’s a single use per charge.
What is FlexBattery?
A setting that switches the Holder battery between Performance Mode and Eco Mode. Performance gives up to 3 consecutive uses; Eco limits you to one but can extend the Holder battery’s lifespan by up to a year.
How long can I pause a session?
Up to 8 minutes. If you don’t resume within that window, the Holder switches off and the experience ends.
Is it compatible with my ILUMA PRIME?
Yes. Holders and Pocket Chargers cross-charge in both directions, cables and adaptors are interchangeable, and ILUMA accessories fit i PRIME. No firmware update is required on the older device.
What’s the difference from ILUMA PRIME?
