The Lambda i9 is LAMBDA’s current-generation heat-not-burn device for TEREA SMARTCORE STICKS, and the successor to the widely sold Lambda i8. It keeps the two adjustments that made the i8 worth buying, working temperature from 200 to 300°C and session time from 3 to 6 minutes, and changes the parts around them.

Six colours are sold in the UAE: Black, Gold, Green, Grey, Red and Silver. Same device inside every one.

If you already know the i8, the honest summary is short: the i9 is the same idea with a better screen, a self-cleaning function, and Silver replacing White in the colour lineup. If you do not know the i8, start with why anyone buys a Lambda instead of an IQOS, because that logic has not changed.

Why a Lambda at All

An IQOS ILUMA runs every session at one fixed heat profile for one fixed length: up to six minutes or fourteen puffs. You cannot see the temperature and you cannot change it. For most people that consistency is exactly right.

The Lambda devices exist for the other people. On an i9 you set the working temperature anywhere in a 100-degree range and the session length anywhere from three to six minutes, and those two dials genuinely change what a TEREA stick delivers. Cooler and longer gives a lighter, slower session where menthol stays crisp. Hotter and shorter gives a fast, full one. An ILUMA cannot do either.

The cost is the same as it always was: no Philip Morris International warranty, a bigger single-piece body with no pocket charger, and a third-party support channel. If adjustability solves no problem you actually have, an ILUMA i remains the safer buy. That trade has not moved between the i8 and the i9.

What Changed From the i8

Three things worth money, and some things worth knowing.

The display went from LED to OLED. The i8’s LED display showed temperature, session time and battery level, and it did the job. The i9’s OLED panel shows the same information with far better contrast, which matters in exactly one situation that UAE owners hit daily: direct sunlight. An OLED readout stays legible outdoors in ways a basic LED segment display does not. Indoors the difference is cosmetic. Outside a Dubai office at noon it is not.

A self-cleaning function was added. The i8 shipped with a brush and asked you to use it every twenty sticks or so. The i9 runs a heating cycle that carbonises loose residue in the chamber so it can be tipped out, which takes the routine from a two-minute manual job to pressing a function and tapping the device out afterwards. Worth being precise about what this does and does not mean: it handles the routine buildup, and an occasional manual check of the chamber mouth is still sensible. Self-cleaning reduces the habit, it does not abolish the concept.

Silver replaced White in the lineup. The i8’s White was the finish that showed every mark and asked the most upkeep. Silver keeps the light look with far less of that cost, which is likely exactly why the change happened.

What did not change: the 3200 mAh battery and its rating of up to 40 sessions per charge, USB Type-C charging at 5V 2A, roughly 2.5 hour charge time, the 200 to 300°C and 3 to 6 minute ranges, the settings memory, and compatibility with TEREA and SENTIA Smartcore sticks. HEETS did not work in the i8 and do not work in the i9, whatever any listing says.

One caution that applies to this device specifically. Because the i9 is newer, a lot of UAE listing copy for it is recycled from i8 pages or machine-translated, and details vary between sellers. Where listings disagree, the specifications LAMBDA publishes are the ones to trust, and that is what the table below follows.

What Comes in the Box

  • 1 x Lambda i9 device
  • 1 x USB Type-C cable
  • 1 x user manual
  • 1 x QC card

No wall adaptor is included. Any adaptor rated 5V 2A works, which covers most phone chargers already in your house. TEREA sticks are sold separately, as with every device kit in the UAE.

How to Use It

  1. Charge fully before first use, roughly 2.5 hours over USB Type-C.
  2. Power on and check the OLED display for battery level.
  3. Set the working temperature between 200 and 300°C.
  4. Set the session time between 3 and 6 minutes. The memory holds both settings from then on.
  5. Insert a TEREA stick up to the printed line on the filter.
  6. Start heating and wait for the ready indication.
  7. Use for the session length you set. The device ends the session automatically.
  8. Remove the used stick and dispose of it. One stick, one session.

Run the self-cleaning function periodically following the manual, always with no stick inserted, and tip the device out afterwards once cool.

Choosing a Colour

Identical hardware across all six. The differences are visibility, finish behaviour and stock reality.

Colour Character Practical note
Black Neutral default Most bought, hardest to identify as yours
Gold Warm metallic statement Shows wear at edges before anywhere else
Green Deep muted green Distinctive without being loud
Grey Cool neutral Most forgiving of daily marks
Red Saturated red Instantly identifiable anywhere
Silver Light metallic The White replacement, light look with less upkeep

TEREA Compatibility

The i9 runs every TEREA SMARTCORE STICK sold in the UAE, plus SENTIA and other Smartcore sticks. We stock TEREA across five origins, each with its own flavour range:

The full TEREA range lists everything we carry. HEETS remain incompatible, since they contain no induction element for the device to heat.

Storage and Care in the UAE

The rules are the same as for every lithium-ion device sold here, and they matter more in this climate than almost anywhere else.

Never leave the i9 in a parked car in summer. Cabin temperatures across Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi exceed 60°C, and that permanently reduces the 3200 mAh cell’s capacity. The damage shows up as fewer sessions per charge, not as a visible fault.

Keep it out of prolonged direct sun for the finish’s sake as well as the battery’s.

Run the self-cleaning cycle as the manual directs, and give the chamber mouth an occasional visual check. Never put water, alcohol, solvents or anything metal into the chamber, on this or any heat-not-burn device.

Other Devices

Delivery: Same-day delivery in Dubai, next-day across Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Al Ain, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the Lambda i9 and the Lambda i8?

Three things: the display went from LED to OLED, a self-cleaning function replaced the manual brush routine, and Silver replaced White in the colours. Temperature range, session range, battery and stick compatibility are unchanged.

Is the i9 worth buying over the i8?

If you are outdoors a lot, the OLED readability in sunlight is a real daily gain. If you resented brushing the i8’s chamber, self-cleaning is the other one. If neither applies, the i8 does the same core job and often costs less while stocks last.

Does the Lambda i9 work with HEETS?

No. HEETS contain no induction element, so there is nothing in them for the device to heat. TEREA and SENTIA Smartcore sticks only. Listings that claim otherwise are recycling an old error.

How many sessions per charge?

Up to 40 at moderate settings from the 3200 mAh battery. Sustained high-temperature use brings that down, exactly as it did on the i8.

How does the self-cleaning function work?

The device runs a heating cycle with no stick inserted that carbonises loose residue so it can be tipped out. Run it as the manual directs, let the device cool, tap it out. It replaces the routine brushing the i8 needed.

Does it still need any manual cleaning?

An occasional look at the chamber mouth is still sensible, and anything visible there wipes away with a dry cloth. What self-cleaning removes is the recurring brush-out, not the idea of ever touching the device.

Which colour should I get?

Black if you want the default, Red if you never want to lose track of it, Silver if you liked the idea of White but not the upkeep. All six are identical inside.

Is there a warranty?

LAMBDA’s own, through the seller you buy from, rather than IQOS support. Confirm terms at purchase, since this is a third-party device and channels vary.
