ILUMA i ONE is the compact member of the IQOS ILUMA i series — the newest generation of Philip Morris International’s heated tobacco devices, in a one-piece body that combines Holder and charger.

It runs the same SMARTCORE Induction System as every ILUMA device: an induction coil activates the metal heating element sealed inside each TEREA stick, heating tobacco from within instead of burning it. No blade, no residue, no cleaning.

While both devices share the same compact all-in-one design and use TEREA SMARTCORE™ sticks, the newer ILUMA i ONE introduces several convenience-focused improvements.

When Is the Upgrade Worth It?

The IQOS ILUMA i ONE is a worthwhile upgrade if you prefer a more convenient experience. Its AutoStart and AutoStop functions eliminate the need to press a button before every session, and FlexPuff can provide up to 18 puffs when usage conditions allow. These are the improvements most users notice during everyday use.

When You Can Stick with ILUMA One

If you’re already satisfied with the original IQOS ILUMA One, the upgrade may not be essential. Both devices offer similar session length, charging time, stick compatibility, and approximately 20 sessions per full charge. Neither model includes the Touch Screen or Pause Mode available on larger IQOS ILUMA i devices.

Battery Difference

The 2700 mAh battery in the ILUMA i ONE is larger than the 1728 mAh battery found in the original ILUMA One. While both devices provide around 20 consecutive sessions per charge, the larger battery is expected to maintain its performance better over long-term use.

What FlexPuff Actually Does

FlexPuff is the headline feature of the i series and the one most commonly misunderstood. Here’s the accurate version.

A standard session ends at 6 minutes or 14 puffs, whichever comes first. When FlexPuff activates, the device adapts to how you’re drawing and may allow up to 4 extra puffs — 18 in total — still within the same 6-minute window.

Three things worth knowing that listings rarely mention:

• You can’t trigger it. FlexPuff is system-controlled and activates based on your usage pattern. There’s no button, setting, or technique.
• It doesn’t fire every time. Activation depends on how you puff, so it may not apply to every session or every user.
• The 6-minute limit still applies. Extra puffs come from within the existing window, not by extending it.

If you draw slowly and finish sessions on time rather than on puff count, FlexPuff will rarely change anything for you. If you take short, frequent puffs and regularly hit 14 before six minutes, it’s the feature you’ll notice.

What ILUMA i ONE Doesn’t Have

Being straight about this saves disappointment. The i series is known for three advanced features, and the compact model carries only some of them.

That last row is the one people misread. The two-piece i models manage 3 consecutive uses before the Holder recharges. ILUMA i ONE manages 20, because there’s no separate Holder to run flat.

How It Works

1. Charge fully before first use — around 90 minutes over USB-C.
2. Press and hold the button for 4 seconds to turn the device on.
3. Slide the cap open and insert a TEREA stick up to the line on the filter, without twisting.
4. Heating starts automatically — no button press needed, though pressing for one second also works.
5. After the second vibration, begin your session. The Status Light shows remaining time.
6. The device vibrates once near the end. AutoStop handles shutdown; remove and bin the stick.

Why There’s No Cleaning

Every IQOS generation before ILUMA heated the stick with a physical blade, which accumulated residue and required a regular cleaning routine. It was also the most fragile part of the device.

ILUMA i ONE has no blade. The induction coil sits in the device and the metal heating element sits inside the TEREA stick, leaving with it when binned. Nothing accumulates internally — no cleaning sticks, no brushes, no maintenance cycle. An occasional wipe of the exterior is all it needs.
