TEREA sticks are heated tobacco sticks made by Philip Morris International (PMI) for SMARTCORE induction devices such as IQOS ILUMA. A TEREA stick holds finely ground tobacco around a small metal heating element. The device heats that element from inside, so the tobacco warms without burning. There is no flame, no ash and no smoke; you inhale an aerosol instead. Each pack holds 20 sticks, and one stick gives up to 14 puffs or about 6 minutes. TEREA contains nicotine and is for adult smokers aged 18 and over.
How a TEREA stick works
A TEREA stick has a heating element sealed inside the tobacco. The element is coated with stainless steel. When you insert the stick, the SMARTCORE induction system in the device heats the element, and the element heats the tobacco from the inside.
A cigarette burns tobacco at the tip. A TEREA stick never burns, so it leaves no ash and no burnt end. The device stops the session automatically after the puff or time limit.
Our guide on what is inside a TEREA stick explains each part of the stick.

Which devices work with TEREA sticks
TEREA sticks work only in SMARTCORE induction devices:
- IQOS ILUMA: ILUMA One, ILUMA and ILUMA Prime.
- IQOS ILUMA i: ILUMA i One, ILUMA i and ILUMA i Prime.
- Lambda: Lambda i8, i9 and i10.
TEREA does not work in IQOS 3, IQOS 3 DUO, IQOS Originals, Lambda CC or Lambda T3. Those are blade devices made for HEETS, and IQOS warns that a TEREA stick can damage them. Our comparison of the TEREA device comparison covers each model.
TEREA flavour types
TEREA comes in four main flavour types:
- Tobacco: no menthol, from light (Silver) to full (Teak, Bold Regular).
- Menthol: cooling sticks such as Turquoise, Blue and Black Menthol.
- Menthol with fruit: menthol plus berry, citrus or tropical notes, such as Purple Wave.
- Pearl capsule: a crushable capsule in the filter adds a second flavour when you click it.

| UAE TEREA packs | Packs made for the UAE market | 13 |
| Armenian TEREA | Balanced and mild | 5 |
TEREA vs HEETS
TEREA and HEETS are both PMI heated tobacco sticks, but they are not interchangeable. HEETS sticks have no metal element and are heated by a blade inside older IQOS devices. TEREA sticks carry their own heating element and need an induction device. Our page on TEREA alternatives and HEETS explains which stick fits which device.
Is TEREA legal in the UAE?
Yes. TEREA is sold legally to adults aged 18 and over in the UAE. Federal Law No. 15 of 2009 bans the sale of tobacco products to anyone under 18, and the same law limits where you can smoke. Our guide to UAE smoking rules for TEREA lists the rules.
