Midnight Black is the matte anodised finish in the ILUMA i Standard range, and it is the version most people in the UAE end up with. Neutral enough for a work setting, dark enough that it does not announce itself on a table.
The hardware is identical to the other three colours. Same Holder, same M0022 Pocket Charger, same Touch Screen, same Pause Mode and FlexPuff. Colour changes nothing about how the device behaves.
Why Black Is the Practical Choice, and Where It Costs You
Black outsells the other three finishes by a wide margin, and that has knock-on effects that nobody mentions on a spec sheet.
Accessories arrive first, and in the most variety. Wraps, sleeves and rings for the ILUMA i Standard get made for the black body before anything else, simply because it is the biggest market. If you like changing the look of your device, or you want a protective sleeve that actually fits rather than a generic one, black gives you the most to pick from.
Replacement parts are easier to source. If your Pocket Charger ever needs replacing separately from the Holder, black is the stock colour that shops keep. Terracotta and Violet are ordered in.
It resells more easily. Second-hand ILUMA i Standards in black move faster and hold their asking price better across UAE listings, for the same reason. This matters if you tend to upgrade with each generation.
Now the honest cost of choosing it.
You will lose track of which one is yours. At a majlis, a shisha lounge, a shared office desk or any gathering where more than one person runs an ILUMA i, four identical black devices on one table is a genuinely common scene. A coloured ring or a wrap solves this. Nothing else does.
Matte black shows dust, lint and skin oil clearly. It hides scratches better than the light finishes, which is real, but pocket lint and fingerprints stand out on it more than they do on Breeze Blue or Vivid Terracotta. If you carry it loose in a pocket alongside keys, expect to wipe it more often than you expect to.
It gets hotter in the sun. A dark anodised body absorbs more solar heat than a light one. This is not a defect and the device is not going to fail from it, but if you leave it on a car dashboard or a poolside table in July, black reaches the 60°C storage limit sooner than Breeze Blue does. Keep it shaded and it is a non-issue.
If none of that bothers you, black is the sensible default and there is no argument against it.
Wraps, sleeves and rings get produced in proportion to how many devices ship in each finish. Black ships the most, so it gets the widest choice and the longest availability window. If you like changing how your device looks, this is the finish that lets you.
If the Pocket Charger ever needs replacing on its own, black is the unit shops actually keep on the shelf. Terracotta and Violet are ordered in, which means waiting.
At a majlis, a lounge or a shared desk, black is the finish everyone else also bought. There is no way to identify yours by looking at it. A coloured ring or a wrap fixes this. Nothing else does.
Left on a dashboard or a poolside table in July, a black body reaches the 60°C storage limit sooner than Breeze Blue does. Kept shaded it behaves exactly like every other colour, so this only matters if you leave it out.
Two of these are reasons to buy black. Two are reasons to buy a wrap along with it.

What Comes in the Box
- IQOS ILUMA i Holder in Midnight Black
- IQOS ILUMA i Pocket Charger in Midnight Black
- USB-C charging cable
- Quick start guide and safety information
Note specific to this colour: the supplied cable is white on most UAE kits regardless of device colour. If you want a matching black cable, any USB-C cable rated for 5V 2A will do the job, and third-party ones are easy to find locally.
How to Use It
- Give the Pocket Charger a full charge before the first session. Roughly 135 minutes.
- Hold the Pocket Charger button for four seconds to power it on.
- Drop the Holder into the Pocket Charger. Charging starts by itself.
- Push a TEREA stick in up to the line on the filter until you feel the vibration.
- Heating begins automatically. You can also swipe up on the Touch Screen. Two vibrations means ready.
- Six minutes or fourteen puffs. A vibration warns you near the end.
- Take the used stick out and bin it. One stick, one session, always.
Compatibility
Every TEREA variant sold in the UAE fits, across all five origins we stock: UAE, Japan, Kazakhstan, Indonesia and Armenia.
Holders and Pocket Chargers within the ILUMA i family cross-charge, so a Midnight Black Holder will charge inside a Breeze Blue or Digital Violet Pocket Charger without issue. It will look mismatched and it will work perfectly.
HEETS will not work. No induction core, no heating, nothing to gain from trying.
Storage and Care
Matte anodised aluminium is durable but it is not scratch-proof, and once anodising is broken through the bare metal underneath shows as a bright mark against the black. Carry it away from keys and coins.
Never store it above 60°C. In practice that means never in a parked car in Dubai between May and September.
Clean with a dry microfibre cloth only. Alcohol wipes and cleaning sprays will dull the matte coating unevenly, and the patchy result is worse than the fingerprints you were removing.
Other Colours in This Range

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the black finish scratch more easily than the other colours?
It scratches at the same rate. What differs is visibility. On Midnight Black a deep scratch exposes light metal and stands out sharply, while on Vivid Terracotta or Breeze Blue the contrast is softer. Light surface marks are actually less visible on black than on the pale finishes.
Will a wrap made for the ILUMA PRIME fit my i Standard in black?
No. The i Standard body differs in shape from the previous ILUMA generation, so older wraps and sleeves will not sit correctly regardless of colour. Look specifically for ILUMA i Standard accessories.
Is Midnight Black the same shade as the ILUMA i PRIME Midnight Black?
The name is shared and the tone is close, but the surface treatment differs because the PRIME uses different exterior materials. Side by side you can tell them apart. Ordering one expecting to match the other is a common mistake.
Does black affect battery life in UAE heat?
Indirectly. The colour absorbs more heat in direct sun, and sustained high temperature is what degrades lithium-ion cells. Kept in a pocket or a bag it behaves the same as every other colour.
How often should I wipe it down?
Whenever it looks like it needs it. Realistically that means every few days if you carry it loose in a pocket, less if it lives in a bag. There is no internal cleaning schedule at all on this device.
Is Midnight Black available in the ILUMA i ONE too?
Yes, and in the i PRIME. If you are buying online, check the model name and not just the colour, because all three ranges list a Midnight Black option and product photos look similar at thumbnail size.
