Description

There’s a common assumption about this stick that costs people a good purchase: that Mint is simply Menthol with the cooling turned down.

The cooling is lower, that part is true. But Mint isn’t a subtraction. Japanese users call the two Strong Mint and Light Mint, and Light Mint trades cold for aroma. There are soft vanilla notes in here, a rounder body, and a tobacco base that stays clearly identifiable instead of hiding under the freeze. It is the more aromatic of the pair, not the emptier one.

Crafted by Philip Morris International (PMI) for the SMARTCORE Induction System, heat-not-burn and smoke-free.

Menthol Goes Down, Aroma Goes Up

The bars cross over. That’s the whole story of these two sticks.

Menthol is straightforward and crisp. Mint is softer and richer, with the vanilla note giving it something to say beyond freshness. If you have ever found strong cooling numbing rather than refreshing, this is the version that lets you taste the session.

Japan’s Menthol Ladder

Mint sits at the bottom of the cooling scale and near the top of the aroma scale. That combination doesn’t exist anywhere else in the Japanese menthol range.

Who Should Buy It

  • Users sensitive to throat cooling. The gentlest menthol option Japan produces, with no sharpness at any point in the session.
  • Anyone who likes menthol but not what it hides. With the cold dialled back, the tobacco base and the vanilla note both come through properly.
  • All-day smokers. Low intensity plus real aroma is the combination that survives repetition best.
  • Evening users. The rounder, slightly sweet character suits winding down better than a sharp stick does.

Choose something else if you want a serious chill. Menthol is one step up, and Black Menthol is several. Users coming from strong menthol cigarettes usually find Mint too gentle as a direct replacement.

Coming From Kazakhstan

If Turquoise is your usual, Mint will feel noticeably softer. Turquoise is sharp and clean with light tobacco underneath. Mint is gentle and aromatic with more tobacco presence. Different priorities entirely, despite both sitting in the mild category.

How to Use It

  1. Insert the stick into your IQOS ILUMA or Lambda holder, colored end up, without twisting.
  2. Wait for the ready vibration before drawing.
  3. Take slow puffs. The vanilla note is the reason to buy this stick and it only shows up when you are not rushing.
  4. Bin the stick after up to 14 puffs or roughly 6 minutes.

One storage note that applies to every menthol stick but matters here: moving packs between a cold air-conditioned room and a hot car repeatedly is worse than steady warmth. The temperature swing affects the menthol compounds directly. Keep packs somewhere consistently cool, and see our storage guide for the rest.

30 Days on Mint

🌿 30-Day Log — TEREA Mint Japan

Days 1–7: Expected a watered-down Menthol and got something different. The vanilla is faint but real, and the tobacco is more present than in any other Japanese menthol we tested.

Days 8–15: Became the late-evening stick. Strong cooling feels wrong at 11pm; this doesn’t.

Days 16–23: Back-to-back with Menthol confirmed it. Menthol wins on refreshment, Mint wins on flavour. They are not the same stick at two volumes.

Days 24–30: Verdict: the most misunderstood stick in the Japanese range. Buy it for the aroma, not as a compromise.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is TEREA Mint just a weaker version of TEREA Menthol?

Not exactly. The cooling is softer, but Mint is also more aromatic, with subtle vanilla notes and a more noticeable tobacco base. Japanese users describe the pair as Light Mint and Strong Mint, and the difference is direction as much as strength.

How strong is the cooling?

Soft. Mint sits at the bottom of Japan’s three-step menthol ladder, below Menthol and well below Black Menthol.

Does it really have vanilla in it?

There is a subtle sweet vanilla character that shows up alongside the mint, especially on slower draws. It is what gives Mint more complexity than its cooling level would suggest.

Is it a good first menthol stick?

Yes, particularly if you are sensitive to cooling or unsure whether you want menthol at all. If you are switching directly from menthol cigarettes, Menthol is usually the better match.

How much nicotine does it contain?

Approximately 0.5 mg per stick, the same as every TEREA flavour regardless of origin or cooling strength.

Which devices does it work with?

Any IQOS ILUMA model including the ILUMA i series, plus Lambda i8, i9, and i10. Older blade-based IQOS devices will not heat TEREA sticks.
