LAMBDA i8 Device

The Lambda i8 is a third-party heat-not-burn device built by LAMBDA to run TEREA SMARTCORE STICKS. It uses a Smartcore induction heating system, the same approach IQOS ILUMA devices use, where the heating element sits inside the stick rather than as a blade inside the device.

It is sold in six colours in the UAE: Black, Gold, Green, Grey, Red and White. Every one is the same device inside.

There is one reason people buy an i8 over an ILUMA, and it is worth stating in the first paragraph rather than burying it.

The Two Controls IQOS Does Not Give You

An IQOS ILUMA runs at one factory temperature and one session length. Six minutes or fourteen puffs, whichever comes first, at a heat profile you cannot see or change. That consistency is deliberate and most people never want anything else.

The Lambda i8 unlocks both of those.

Working temperature: 200 to 300°C, adjustable. This is the setting that changes what a TEREA stick actually tastes like. Lower in the range gives a lighter, cooler draw with less intensity and a longer-feeling stick. Higher in the range gives a fuller, warmer, more concentrated draw that arrives faster and finishes sooner. Menthol variants behave very differently across this range compared with tobacco variants, which is the whole point.

Session time: 3 to 6 minutes, adjustable. Independent of temperature. A three-minute setting suits a quick break outside an office in Dubai heat. Six matches the ILUMA session length. You can run a short hot session or a long cool one, and those are genuinely different experiences from the same stick.

The device also has a memory function, so it holds your last temperature and time settings rather than resetting each time you power it on. An LED display shows temperature, session time and battery level, which is more information than any ILUMA screen provides.

That is the case for the i8. If you have never once wished your ILUMA session was hotter, cooler, shorter or longer, this device solves a problem you do not have, and an ILUMA i is the better buy.

What You Give Up

Being fair about this matters more than the sales pitch.

No manufacturer warranty from Philip Morris International. The i8 is made by LAMBDA, not by PMI, and it carries LAMBDA’s own warranty terms rather than IQOS support. If something fails, you are dealing with the third-party channel you bought from.

It needs cleaning. There is a brush in the box, and that brush is there for a reason. Induction heating means no blade and far less residue than an IQOS 3 DUO ever had, but tobacco flakes still collect around the chamber mouth over time. This is the honest difference from an ILUMA, which genuinely asks for nothing. Plan on a brush-out every twenty sticks or so.

Higher settings cost you sessions. The 3200 mAh battery is rated at 35 to 40 sessions per full charge, and that figure assumes moderate settings. Run everything at 300°C for six minutes and you will land nearer the bottom of that range or below it.

It is a bigger, heavier object. 102.8 by 28.9 by 20.8 mm and 83 grams, in one piece. There is no separate pocket charger, so a full charge has to last you the day.

No power adaptor is supplied. Any adaptor rated 5V and 2A works, which covers almost every modern phone charger. TEREA sticks are not included.

The Compatibility Question, Answered Properly

A number of UAE listings for this device state that it works with HEETS. That is incorrect, and LAMBDA’s own product documentation says so directly.

HEETS were designed for blade heating and contain no induction core. The i8 heats by induction, so there is physically nothing inside a HEETS stick for it to act on. Putting one in produces no heat and risks leaving tobacco in the chamber.

How to Use It

1. Charge fully before first use. Around 2.5 hours over USB Type-C at 5V 2A.
2. Power the device on and check the LED display for battery level.
3. Set your working temperature anywhere between 200 and 300°C.
4. Set your session time between 3 and 6 minutes.
5. Insert a TEREA stick up to the printed line on the filter.
6. Start heating and wait for the ready indication.
7. Use the stick for the session length you set. The device ends the session automatically.
8. Remove the used stick and dispose of it. One stick per session, always.

The memory function keeps your settings for next time, so steps three and four are a first-run task rather than a daily one.

Choosing a Colour

All six are the same device, same materials, same specifications. What differs is finish behaviour over time and how easy the device is to identify as yours.

Storage and Care in the UAE

Do not leave the i8 in a parked car in summer. Cabin temperatures in Dubai and Sharjah exceed what a 3200 mAh lithium-ion cell tolerates, and the damage shows up permanently as fewer sessions per charge.

Keep it out of prolonged direct sunlight. Aluminium alloy handles heat well, but sustained UV affects the exterior finish over months, and the lighter and warmer colours show it first.

Brush the chamber out regularly using the tool supplied. Let the device cool completely first. Never use water, alcohol or cleaning sprays on it, and never put anything metal into the heating chamber.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Lambda i8 work with HEETS?

No. Several UAE listings claim it does, and they are wrong. HEETS have no induction core, and the i8 heats by induction. Use TEREA or SENTIA Smartcore sticks only.

Is the i8 as good as an IQOS ILUMA?

Different, rather than better or worse. The i8 gives you adjustable temperature and session time, which no ILUMA does. The ILUMA gives you manufacturer support, no cleaning at all, and a smaller device. Which matters more depends entirely on whether you want to change how your sticks taste.

How many sessions do I get from one charge?

Between 35 and 40 at moderate settings. Running consistently at 300°C for six-minute sessions draws more power and will bring that number down.

Why is there a brush in the box?

Because the chamber collects tobacco flakes over time. Far less than a blade device, but not zero. Brushing it out every twenty sticks or so keeps the draw consistent.

Can I change the temperature mid-session?
