Purple Wave is real tobacco with a cool menthol sensation and a dark forest fruit aroma, blackberry and blackcurrant territory rather than bright summer berry. The Indonesian version runs louder on both sides than the Kazakhstan one: more fruit, more ice, less restraint.
That makes it the most flavour-forward menthol in the Indonesian collection and one of the most consistently reordered sticks we carry.
Crafted by Philip Morris International (PMI) for the SMARTCORE Induction System. Heat-not-burn, smoke-free, no ash.
Why It Tastes Colder in Winter Than in Summer
Here’s something no product page in this market mentions, and it explains a complaint we hear regularly: the same pack of Purple Wave feels less cold in July than it did in January.
Nothing is wrong with the sticks. Menthol doesn’t lower temperature it triggers the cold receptors in your mouth and throat chemically. How intense that reads depends on where your body is starting from.
Your mouth and airways are already cool. The menthol adds to a low baseline, so the chill reads as sharp and pronounced. The berry sits behind it.
Your baseline is warm and you’re likely breathing faster. The same menthol load reads as milder, and the forest fruit becomes proportionally more noticeable.
If Purple Wave feels weak outdoors in summer, you don’t need a stronger stick — you need Black Green for those specific sessions and Purple Wave for indoor ones. Many regular users run exactly that split rather than switching entirely.
Worth ruling out first: a genuinely heat-damaged pack loses its fruit before its cooling. If the berry has gone quiet but the cold hasn’t, that’s storage, not season.
That last distinction is the useful one. Season affects how cold it feels. Bad storage affects how fruity it tastes. The two problems look similar and have different fixes.
Dark Forest Fruit, Not Sweet Berry
The aroma here is deliberately dark. Think blackberry and blackcurrant rather than strawberry or raspberry — lower in sugar, higher in depth, and slightly tart on the finish.
That tartness is what stops Purple Wave from turning cloying across a session. It’s also the reason it works as a daily stick rather than an occasional treat, despite being the most flavour-heavy menthol Indonesia makes.
Indonesia’s Purple Wave vs Kazakhstan’s
Same name, same brief, two executions.
| Purple Wave Indonesia | Purple Wave Kazakhstan | |
|---|---|---|
| Fruit | Bolder, more forward | Balanced against the menthol |
| Cooling | Stronger, icier finish | Medium-deep, more even |
| Overall | Louder in both directions | The restrained version |
| Suits | Users who want the flavour obvious | Users who want it repeatable |
Compare both on the TEREA Purple Wave flavour page if you’re deciding between origins.
Who Should Buy It
- Berry-menthol fans. This is the boldest version of that combination in our Indonesian range.
- Indoor and air-conditioned users. As covered above, the cooling reads strongest against a cool baseline.
- Users who find plain menthols boring. The forest fruit gives the session something to hold onto beyond the chill.
- Anyone stepping up from Green. Same origin, more flavour, similar throat comfort.
Reconsider if you dislike fruit in tobacco, where Blue is the pure menthol option, or if you want crisp rather than sweet, which the green trio covers.

How to Use It
- Insert the stick into your IQOS ILUMA or Lambda holder, coloured end up, without twisting.
- Wait for the ready vibration before the first draw.
- Draw at a steady pace. Slower puffs favour the forest fruit; faster ones push the menthol forward. Adjust depending on what you want from the session.
- Bin the stick after up to 14 puffs or roughly 6 minutes.

Fruit aromatics degrade in heat before menthol does, so a badly stored Purple Wave becomes an ordinary cold stick with the berry missing. Keep packs sealed and cool. See the storage guide.
30 Days on Purple Wave
Days 1–7: Louder than the Kazakhstan version on both fruit and ice, exactly as expected. The forest fruit reads dark rather than sweet, which keeps it from getting tiring.
Days 8–15: Noticed the indoor and outdoor difference and started tracking it. Same pack, same week, noticeably different cooling depending on where we smoked it.
Days 16–23: Draw speed turned out to be a genuine control. Slow for berry, faster for cold. Not many sticks respond that clearly.
Days 24–30: Verdict: the flavour-forward pick of the Indonesian menthols, and the best of them for air-conditioned indoor use.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does TEREA Purple Wave Indonesia taste like?
Real tobacco with a cool menthol sensation and a dark forest fruit aroma. The fruit sits in blackberry and blackcurrant territory rather than bright sweet berry, with a light tartness on the finish.
Why does it feel less cold in summer?
Menthol triggers cold receptors rather than lowering temperature, so how strong it feels depends on your starting baseline. In an air-conditioned room the chill reads sharper; outdoors in 45°C heat the same stick feels milder while the fruit becomes more noticeable.
How is it different from the Kazakhstan version?
The Indonesian version is louder on both the fruit and the cooling. The Kazakhstan version keeps the two more balanced, which makes it easier to repeat daily.
Is it sweet?
Moderately. The dark forest fruit brings noticeable flavour, but it’s lower in sugar than a bright berry aroma and the tart finish keeps it from becoming cloying.
Purple Wave or Black Green?
Purple Wave for dark berry with strong cooling. Black Green for green fruit with more intense cooling on a bolder black tobacco base. Purple Wave is the more flavour-forward of the two.
How much nicotine does it contain?
Approximately 0.5 mg per stick, the same across every TEREA flavour and origin.
