The IQOS ILUMA i Standard is the middle device in Philip Morris International’s ILUMA i range. It uses a two-piece format: a Holder that heats the TEREA SMARTCORE STICK, and a Pocket Charger that recharges the Holder and carries it between uses.
What makes this generation different from the older ILUMA line is not the heating. That is unchanged. What changed is the interface. The Holder now carries a Touch Screen and a Light Guide ring, and three settings sit behind it that older ILUMA devices never had.
Sold in the UAE in four finishes: Midnight Black, Breeze Blue, Vivid Terracotta and Digital Violet. Every colour is the same device inside. Nothing is added or removed with the finish.
Where the i Standard Sits in the ILUMA i Line
This is the part most product listings skip, and it is the only question that matters before you buy. There are three ILUMA i devices, and the jump between them is not evenly spaced.
ILUMA i ONE is a single all-in-one unit. Holder and battery in one body, roughly 20 uses per charge, then it stops until you plug it in. No Pocket Charger to top it back up on the move. It has FlexPuff. It does not have the Touch Screen or Pause Mode.
ILUMA i Standard adds the Pocket Charger back, and with it the Touch Screen, Pause Mode and FlexBattery. This is the point where the feature list becomes complete. Everything the i range can do, this device does.
ILUMA i PRIME takes that same feature set and wraps it in different materials, a differently finished Pocket Charger and its own colour palette. The Holder is the same model number as the i Standard Holder. The features are identical.
So the curve flattens at the Standard. Going from i ONE to i Standard buys you capability. Going from i Standard to i PRIME buys you finish. That is a real difference, and some people want it, but it is worth naming honestly rather than letting a price gap imply performance.
There is one exception worth knowing. If you already own an ILUMA PRIME or an older ILUMA, your existing wraps, sleeves and rings will not transfer to the i Standard. The bodies are not the same shape.
The Four Advanced Features, and How They Interact
The ILUMA i Standard has four settings that all touch the same session. They are documented separately by IQOS, which is why almost nobody explains what happens when you use them together.
Touch Screen. On the Holder, not the charger. It shows preheating progress, time left in the session, and how many uses are still stored in the Holder battery. Two dashes means two uses left. One dash means one. A circle with a zero means the Holder is flat.
Pause Mode. Swipe down across the full length of the Touch Screen and the session stops. Four vertical lines appear and the Holder vibrates. You get up to eight minutes. Swipe up to resume and wait for the reheat. If the swipe does not cover the entire screen, nothing happens, which is the most common reason people think Pause is broken.
FlexPuff. The Holder measures how much aerosol you have drawn and may grant four extra puffs inside the same six-minute window. It is on by default and managed through the IQOS App.
FlexBattery. Two modes. Performance Mode is the default and gives up to three consecutive uses. Eco Mode limits the Holder to one use at a time. Eco can only be switched on inside the IQOS App.
Now the interactions, which are the useful part:

The pause window is the number worth remembering. Three minutes or eight puffs, whichever comes first. After that, Pause is not available for that stick no matter what the screen showed a moment earlier.

The AC power adaptor is sold separately. Any adaptor rated 5V, 2A will charge it, and most modern phone chargers already meet that. TEREA sticks are never included with a device kit anywhere in the UAE.
How to Use It
- Charge the Pocket Charger fully before first use. It takes about 135 minutes over USB-C.
- Press and hold the Pocket Charger button for four seconds to switch it on. The status lights come on.
- Place the Holder inside the Pocket Charger. It charges automatically, no button press needed.
- Insert a TEREA stick up to the printed line on the filter, until the Holder vibrates.
- Heating starts on its own, or you can swipe up on the Touch Screen. The screen shows heating progress and the second vibration means it is ready.
- Use it for up to six minutes or fourteen puffs. The Holder vibrates when about 30 seconds or two puffs remain.
- Remove the used stick and dispose of it. Never reinsert a used stick, and never try to reheat one.
If a stick feels stuck, switch the Holder off first, then remove it. The ILUMA Stick Remover accessory handles this cleanly if it happens often.

One hard limit: HEETS do not work in any ILUMA device. HEETS were built for blade-based heating and have no internal metal core for induction to act on. Forcing one in achieves nothing and risks damaging the chamber. This applies to the entire ILUMA family, not just the i series.
Storage and Everyday Care in the UAE
Heat is the only real enemy here. Do not leave the device in a parked car during summer. Cabin temperatures in Dubai and Sharjah pass 60°C easily, which is above the safe limit for a lithium-ion cell and will permanently reduce how long the Holder lasts between charges.
Keep it out of prolonged direct sunlight for the same reason, and because sustained UV exposure affects the exterior finish over time.
Sand and fine dust are the other UAE-specific issue. There is no blade to clog, so the interior is fine, but grit in the Holder slot can scratch the stick chamber. A dry wipe now and then is enough. Do not use alcohol, solvents or water on any part of the device.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the ILUMA i Standard better than the ILUMA i PRIME?
Not in capability. The two share the same Holder model, the same Touch Screen, the same Pause Mode, FlexPuff and FlexBattery. The PRIME differs in materials, Pocket Charger design and colour range. If you are buying for what the device does rather than how it looks, the Standard already does all of it.
Can I use Pause Mode more than once on the same stick?
No. Pause is available once per session, and only during the first three minutes or first eight puffs. Once you have used it, or once that window closes, it is gone for that stick.
Why did FlexPuff not give me extra puffs?
Most likely because you used Pause during that session. The two features do not run together. FlexPuff also depends on how much aerosol you actually drew, so it will not trigger on every session even when Pause is untouched.
How do I switch to Eco Mode?
Only through the IQOS App, paired over Bluetooth. There is no way to change FlexBattery mode from the device itself. Be aware that Eco Mode removes Pause Mode completely and limits the Holder to one use before it needs to go back in the charger.
Does the Touch Screen work with wet hands?
Poorly. Moisture interferes with the swipe registering along the full length of the screen, which is what Pause requires. Dry your fingers first, especially after wudu or a swim.
How many TEREA sticks can I get through before recharging?
About 20 from a fully charged Pocket Charger, in Performance Mode. Eco Mode changes how the Holder draws power but the Pocket Charger total stays broadly similar. Heavy use in very hot conditions will reduce it.
Do I need to clean it like the old IQOS 3 DUO?
No. Blade-based devices left tobacco residue that needed brushing and cleaning sticks. The SMARTCORE INDUCTION SYSTEM heats from inside the stick, so nothing accumulates in the chamber. An occasional dry wipe of the exterior is all it asks for.
What happens if I put a HEETS stick in it?
Nothing useful. HEETS have no induction core, so the device cannot heat them. You will also make it harder to remove the stick cleanly, and repeated attempts can mark the chamber. Use TEREA only.
