Obsidian Black is the quiet one, and it outsells the rest of the ILUMA PRIME range for exactly that reason. Deep anodised aluminium, a matching textured wrap, and nothing about it asking to be noticed.
Underneath, it’s the same 4th-generation device as every other Prime: Holder plus Pocket Charger, running Philip Morris International’s SMARTCORE Induction System. No heating blade, no residue, no cleaning cycle.

Colour pages tell you what a device looks like on day one. Nobody tells you what it looks like on day two hundred, and with anodised aluminium the finish behaves differently depending on the shade.

How to Use It
- Charge the Pocket Charger fully before first use — around 2 hours 15 minutes over USB-C.
- Slide the wrap open and insert the Holder to charge it. The Holder status light shows its battery level.
- Insert a TEREA stick into the Holder up to the line on the filter. Don’t twist it; there’s no blade to twist onto.
- The Holder vibrates and the lights pulse as heating starts automatically. Alternatively press the button for one second.
- After around 15 seconds it’s ready. Draw normally for up to 6 minutes or 14 puffs.
- One vibration and a single pulsing white light signals the last 30 seconds or final two puffs. Remove and bin the stick when the light goes out.

What Works With It
Every TEREA stick we carry, across all five origins: Japan, Kazakhstan, Indonesia, Armenia, and the UAE edition.
The Holder also cross-charges with the ILUMA i PRIME Pocket Charger and vice versa.
Not compatible with HEETS or any blade-based IQOS model. The device only activates when a SMARTCORE stick is inserted, so nothing else will start it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Obsidian Black show fingerprints?
More than the lighter finishes, yes. Skin oils are more visible on dark anodised aluminium, though a dry microfibre cloth removes them in seconds. In exchange, fine scratches from keys and coins show far less than on metallic or pale finishes.
How should I clean the device body?
A dry microfibre cloth is all that’s needed. Avoid alcohol wipes and solvents on the anodised surface — the colour sits in the oxide layer and harsh cleaners can dull it unevenly.
Is Obsidian Black different in performance from the other colours?
No. All five ILUMA PRIME colourways are identical devices with identical battery, heating, and session specifications. The difference is purely finish.
How many sticks does a full charge give?
Up to 20 uses from a fully charged Pocket Charger, with 2 consecutive sessions before the Holder needs recharging. Full charging takes around 2 hours 15 minutes over USB-C.
Does it need cleaning like older IQOS devices?
No. There’s no heating blade the metal heating element sits inside each TEREA stick and is discarded with it, which removes the cleaning cycle entirely.
Can I use HEETS with it?
No. ILUMA PRIME only activates with SMARTCORE sticks, which means TEREA only. HEETS won’t start the device.
