How It Works

Using the IQOS ILUMA PRIME is straightforward. Insert a compatible TEREA stick into the Holder until it reaches the guide line on the filter. The Holder will vibrate and the LED lights will begin pulsing, indicating that the heating process has started automatically. If preferred, you can also start heating manually by pressing the button for approximately one second.

The device heats the tobacco in around 15 seconds. Each session lasts for up to 6 minutes or 14 puffs, whichever comes first. Near the end of the session, the Holder vibrates once and a single white LED begins pulsing, letting you know that approximately 30 seconds or two puffs remain. The session ends automatically when the light switches off.

The Cleaning Question

This is the practical difference between ILUMA and every IQOS generation before it, and it’s worth stating clearly.

Blade-based devices needed regular cleaning because tobacco residue built up on the heating blade, and the blades themselves were fragile. ILUMA PRIME has no blade. The heating element lives inside the TEREA stick and leaves with it, so there is nothing to clean — no sticks, no swabs, no cleaning cycle.

One consequence worth knowing: the device will only activate when a SMARTCORE stick is inserted. Anything else, including older HEETS sticks, simply won’t start it. That isn’t a fault; it’s how the system identifies a compatible consumable.

Can I use HEETS sticks with it?
